April 9, 2024 (Charleston, WV) – Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC is pleased to announce that Shannon P. Smith, a member of the firm, has been elected as the President of the West Virginia State Bar. The induction ceremony took place during the West Virginia State Bar’s annual meeting in Charleston on April 7th and 8th, 2024.

Smith’s role as President illustrates her dedication to the legal profession and her commitment to serving the legal community of West Virginia. With a wealth of practice experience and more than a decade of leadership involvement, Smith is poised to lead the West Virginia State Bar in her term with a renewed strategic vision.

At Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC, Smith is resident in the firm’s Morgantown office where she practices in the areas of insurance defense, energy and natural resources, commercial law, fraternal law, and general litigation. Smith’s litigation practice is focused on appeals, premises liability, wrongful death/personal injury defense, and representation of fraternal organizations. She also represents individuals in acquiring, leasing, and maintaining their interests in oil and natural gas in West Virginia. Smith regularly appears before all West Virginia courts and is licensed to practice in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
