Gary L. Swingle

Gary Swingle is not an attorney, but he assists Kay Casto & Chaney attorneys in their practices.  With more than 47 years of dedicated experience in business and individual taxation, business management, investment management, litigation support, and financial planning, Mr. Swingle brings a wealth of financial and business experience to the Kay Casto & Chaney attorneys in their efforts to provide holistic legal services to private company and individual clients.

Mr. Swingle majored in Business Administration, with fields of concentration in Accounting and Management, at West Virginia State University. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in 1970.  He attended the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies in 1973-1974 with a concentration in Business Administration. Mr. Swingle became a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) in 1973 and was designated as a PFS (Personal Financial Specialist) in 2003.

Mr. Swingle retired from one of West Virginia’s largest CPA firms in 2015. Mr. Swingle was a senior member/owner of the CPA firm since 1975, and over the decades headed the small business department; the audit and the bank audit departments; the law firm services department; and the tax department of the firm. He also participated in litigation support services and assisted in numerous sales and mergers of small business clients. In 2001, Mr. Swingle founded a Registered Investment Advisory/Financial Planning firm affiliated with the CPA firm, and he served as the long-term President and Manager of that very successful Registered Investment Advisory/Financial Planning firm for 17 years.

Mr. Swingle has been highly dedicated to the accounting profession throughout his career.  He is a Past President of the Charleston Chapter of CPA’s and the West Virginia Society of CPA’s. He was also appointed by the Governor of West Virginia to serve on the West Virginia Board of Accountancy that regulates CPA’s in West Virginia, and served as the Board President. Mr. Swingle is also very involved with his alma mater, West Virginia State University, and was appointed by two West Virginia Governors to the University’s Board of Governors for two four year terms.  He also has served for more than 25 years as a Board Member of the West Virginia State University Foundation, served two terms as Chair of that Board, and was recently named as a Director Emeritus of the Foundation. Mr. Swingle also serves on the Board of the Cross Roads Pregnancy Care Center, and has been involved in fund raising for many local charities and community nonprofit associations.  He and his wife, Kathi, live in Charleston, and have two grown children and three grandchildren. He and Kathi attend and are very active in Bible Center Church.
