Morgantown, WV (June 23, 2025) – Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC proudly announces that Teresa Dumire has been named the 2025 “Defense Lawyer of the Year” by the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia (DTCWV). This prestigious recognition celebrates Ms. Dumire’s contributions to civil defense practice and her commitment to the legal profession in West Virginia.

A member of the firm’s Management Committee and Managing Member of the Morgantown office, Ms. Dumire focuses her practice on civil litigation, with an emphasis on construction law, trucking litigation, insurance defense, and the defense of personal injury and wrongful death claims.

Ms. Dumire is widely known and respected for her trial advocacy and litigation strategy. Her professional accolades include an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell, recognition by Best Lawyers in America since 2011, and multiple selections as “Lawyer of the Year” in various fields including insurance law, construction law, and personal injury defense. In 2025 alone, she earned “Lawyer of the Year” titles in Litigation – Construction and Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants for the Morgantown region.

In addition, Ms. Dumire has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to service and leadership in the legal community. She has served on the Board of Governors for the DTCWV for over a decade, including a term as President from 2020 to 2021, and continues to serve as liaison to the WVU College of Law. She is also a WV Bar Foundation Fellow, and served for several years on the Foundation’s Board of Directors, including service as its President from 2023-2024.  She also serves as a member of numerous national legal organizations—including the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel where she serves as the West Virginia State Representative, a Vice Chair of the Construction Section, and a member of the Transportation Section, in addition to her membership in other organizations where she has held advisory and committee roles that reflect her breadth of knowledge.
