Governor Justice Appoints Ewing to Fill Vacancy on 12th Judicial Circuit Bench

December 12, 2018 (Charleston, WV) — Governor Jim Justice has appointed Thomas H. Ewing to fill the vacancy on the 12th Judicial Circuit Court serving Fayette County.  Ewing has practiced law at Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC since 2004. He currently serves as the managing member of the firm’s Fayetteville office.

“Governor Justice could not have made a better choice,” began Craig M. Kay, a member of the firm’s Management Committee. “Of course, it is difficult for us to lose an esteemed colleague with the knowledge and personal qualities that Tom possesses, but we know that those assets will provide to the citizens of Fayette County and our State a judge of impeccable class,” Kay said.

During his career at Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC, Ewing has focused his practice in the area of commercial law, which includes a concentration in consumer law litigation that is covered under the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act, federal consumer protection laws, and creditors rights and bankruptcy. He also serves clients with respect to general business law matters, real estate, and estate litigation.

Ewing graduated summa cum laude from Glenville State College with degrees in both History and Education.  Then he graduated Order of the Coif from the West Virginia University College of Law. Within the business sector, Ewing is an alumnus of Leadership West Virginia, a prominent statewide program designed to develop, strengthen, and connect emerging leaders throughout the Mountain State.  His professional accomplishments have resulted in a “Distinguished” rating from Martindale Hubbell, a peer review rating system for the legal industry. He has also been listed as one of “The Best Lawyers in America” for his work in the area of banking and litigation.

Ewing is a member of the West Virginia State Bar, the West Virginia State Bar Association, the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia, and the American Bar Association (Business and Real Estate sections). He has authored many articles that have been utilized by legal associations and professional organizations.

As a former teacher in Fayette County schools, Ewing has remained involved in youth groups and related community programs. He is a volunteer, coach, and member of the board of directors for the Midland Trail Little League, Inc., and an organizer and officer of the John A. Flournoy Youth Basketball League, Inc.  He is an active supporter of ministry programs at the Sunday Road Baptist Church in Hico, West Virginia, where he serves as a member as well as a Sunday school teacher.

Tom Ewing and his wife, Mindy, are the proud parents of four children. They reside in the New River Gorge area of Fayette County.

Ewing will be sworn in at 10 a.m. on Jan. 2 in Judge Paul M. Blake Jr.’s main courtroom at the Fayette County Courthouse. There will be a separate investiture ceremony on Jan. 28 at 1:30 p.m.
