Charleston, WV (October 5, 2021) – Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC is pleased to announce that Elizabeth D. Grant has joined the firm. Grant will focus her broad-based practice in the areas of commercial law, civil litigation, and insurance defense in the firm’s Martinsburg office.

From 2017 until joining Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC, Grant served in the Office of the Attorney General (Martinsburg) as an Assistant Attorney General. In this role, Grant argued cases before the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia and filed numerous appellate briefs before the Court. She was appointed as Special Assistant United States Attorney (N.D. W.Va.) and second-chaired several federal criminal trials. Grant’s vast trial experience included complex opioid litigation, and corporate investigations falling under the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act.

In addition, Grant served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney representing Berkeley County (2015 – 2017).  In this capacity, Grant conducted felony preliminary hearings and maintained the magistrate court docket, including trial, motion practice, and discovery. Grant also served as a Law Clerk for the Honorable John Preston Bailey, Chief Judge, in the U.S District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia (2014 – 2015).

Grant is a 2005 graduate of West Virginia University (B.S., Business Administration), and a 2014 graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law (J.D.). She completed law school with honors such as Order of the Coif and the West Virginia Law Review, which she managed as Associate Editor. Grant was vigorously involved in the Clinical Law Program and served as both a teaching assistant and a research assistant in the section of Constitutional Law.

Grant’s Bar admissions include the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Court representing the northern and southern districts of West Virginia.

In the community, Grant is a member of the Junior League of the Eastern Panhandle. She is also actively involved with Bridges, a community substance abuse treatment collaborative.
