Charleston, W.Va. (April 7, 2017) — Best Lawyers, the oldest and one of the most respected guides to the legal profession, recently announced the 2017 “Women in the Law” Spring Business Edition, produced in collaboration with the Coalition of Women’s Initiatives in Law.

The “Women of Influence” issue lists Kay Casto & Chaney members Rebecca A. Betts (Commercial Litigation), Pamela C. Deem (Corporate Law), and Luci R. Wellborn (Insurance Law; Product Liability Litigation) for the Charleston office.  In Morgantown, W.Va., Teresa Dumire (Construction Law, Insurance Law); Debra Scudiere (Alternative Dispute Resolution), and Debra Bowers (Family Law) made the prestigious list.

Rebecca Betts represents major corporate defendants in mass tort and class action litigation involving personal injury, antitrust, securities, and other claims. Ms. Betts also represents corporate defendants in regulatory investigations and claims brought by the West Virginia Attorney General and West Virginia Securities Commissioner.

Pamela Deem concentrates her law practice in all areas of complex commercial and business litigation, including business disputes, defamation, and insurance matters. Although her practice is primarily defense work, Ms. Deem also represents individuals and corporate entities that are plaintiffs in commercial and business disputes.

Luci Wellborn practices in the areas of civil defense litigation with a focus on construction law, employment law, and complex and commercial litigation.  Ms. Wellborn has more than 25 years of experience in handling and litigating insurance defense cases and claims, including coverage issues at both the trial and appellate levels.

Debra Bowers has more than two decades of legal practice experience in the areas of domestic law, estate planning and estate administration, real estate, identity theft, identity theft protection, and corporations and small business entities and the transactions associated with those corporations and small businesses. She also has experience in the civil litigation attendant to those areas.

Debra Scudiere is an experienced trial attorney whose practice deals with all areas of civil defense litigation. A large part of her practice is also devoted to alternative dispute resolution, including service to other attorneys and their clients as a mediator and an arbitrator. Ms. Scudiere’s long experience as a mediator has led to her selection to the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.

Teresa Dumire serves as the managing member of the firm’s Morgantown office, practicing in the areas of civil defense litigation with a focus on construction law, insurance law, and personal injury defense. She was recently elected to serve on the firm’s management committee.
