BOB ALLEN PHOTOCharleston, WV (January 27, 2017) — Kay Casto & Chaney is pleased to announce that attorney Robert Allen has been confirmed for induction into the West Virginia Chapter of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.  The process of induction included weeks of client due diligence interviews and peer voting from within the Academy.

The National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals is a professional association whose membership consists of neutrals characterized by their hands-on experience in the field of civil & commercial conflict resolution, and by their commitment to the negotiation tools of alternative dispute resolution.  Allen joins fellow Academy member and firm colleague, Debra Scudiere (Morgantown).

Bob Allen represents individuals and entities in civil, criminal, and administrative matters in federal, state, and local courts. An extensive part of Mr. Allen’s practice involves the representation of clients in white-collar criminal investigations and prosecutions. With respect to civil litigation, Mr. Allen represents both plaintiffs and defendants in wide-ranging matters. He also maintains an active mediation practice and handles at least 100 cases per year.

Previously, Mr. Allen was a founding member and former managing member of the law firm of Allen Guthrie & Thomas PLLC. He served as the Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia (1975-1977; 1978-1981), and he served as chief of the Coal Fraud Project by prosecuting illegal coal tax shelters.

In addition to practicing law for more than three decades, Mr. Allen served as a naval aviator in the U.S. Navy and was on active duty from 1966 to 1972. He continued his military service in the Naval Reserves from 1972 to 1992 and retired as a commander. Mr. Allen has received numerous military decorations based on his accomplishments as a United States Navy pilot with service in Vietnam.

Mr. Allen received a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University (1963), a Masters of Business Administration (1965), and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the West Virginia University College of Law (1974). He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for both the southern and northern regions of West Virginia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

Currently, Mr. Allen is a member of the West Virginia State Bar (Committee on Criminal Law), the Kanawha County Bar Association. He was named a Fellow in the American Bar Foundation and the West Virginia Bar Foundation. He was honored by the United States Department of Justice with awards acknowledging superior achievements and performance, in addition to recognition by the Department of Treasury – Internal Revenue Service (Criminal Division) for his distinguished contributions to the legal profession. He has received numerous accolades from the U.S. district courts for mediation services.
