John R. McGhee, Jr.John R. McGhee, Jr. is the Chairman of the firm's Insurance/Litigation Practice Group. Mr. McGhee's practice of law is primarily concentrated in the areas of insurance defense, products/premises liability defense, insurance coverage, as well as in federal criminal defense work.
Mr. McGhee graduated cum laude from Hampden-Sydney College in 1986 with a bachelor's degree, and he is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa. He received his J.D. degree from the West Virginia University College of Law in 1989 and is a member of the Order of the Coif. Mr. McGhee was Co-Editor of the National Coal Issue of the West Virginia Law Review. He was admitted to practice law in West Virginia in 1989 and in Kentucky in 1997 and is listed in The Best Lawyers In America for Insurance Law.
Currently, Mr. McGhee is on the Local School Improvement Council for George Washington High School, serves as co-chairman of the Buckskin Council 100 Anniversary of Scouting Camporee, and is an Executive Board Member of the Buckskin Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Additionally, Mr. McGhee serves on the Board of Trustees for the West Virginia State Bar Client Protection Fund.
Mr. McGhee has served as a lecturer for the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia's Insurance Law subgroup on declaratory judgment actions.
Among Mr. McGhee's achievements include being listed in the 2009 West Virginia Super Lawyers for Personal Injury Defense: General.
Previously, he served as a Vestry Member and Senior Warden of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Charleston, West Virginia, and as Chancellor of the Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia. He is a former District Commissioner of the Buckskin Council/BSA and former lawyer representative for the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia for Criminal Justice Act Attorneys.
